# 21 — LITURGICAL COLORS

While music has been a central aspect of my professional life on stage and in the classroom, I recently started shifting my efforts from a promising career to something that I am much more passionate about: becoming closer to Jesus and striving to become a Saint. The past few months have presented me with some of the most spiritually transformative experiences in my life: a mission trip to Jamaica, a pilgrimage throughout Italy, and a dramatic increase in church activity through various ministries at my local parish. Music is still part of my life and always will be, but I want to share whatever skills I have with my fellow parishioners and also give my time to whichever other ministries need help and volunteers. Although relatively recent, one of those is the Altar Server ministry.

Each day that I suit up in the sacristy in preparation to assist the priest, it would be a different color for the cincture that secures my alb. I have known that the four main colors (green, purple, red, white) were always an important part of the Mass, but my increased participation around the altar has led me to a mind of curiosity. As a result, I discovered what the different colors meant, especially in the context of the Saints. Now, more in-tune with the beauty of the Sacrament of the Mass, I am learning so much about all the Saints who have helped guide Mother Church throughout the thousands of years of our epic history. I am so thankful for our Saints' watchful care and guidance, and, of course, all Glory to God for giving us such legendary figures whose works and influences have profoundly shaped Christian society as we know it today, which I am eternally grateful to be a part of.
